If MSL does not own a book, we may be able to borrow it from another library through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Requests may be placed in person, by phone or by filling out the “Ask us to find a book” form under Quick Links. ILL service is restricted to printed books. A book is not eligible for ILL until it is at least six months old. If you are trying to obtain a new item, please use the “Suggest a purchase” form found in Quick Links.
ILL services are available to Library cardholders whose accounts are in good standing. There is a limit of 3 active book requests. Any exceptions to the limit must be discussed in advance with the ILL librarian. Loans from other Vermont libraries usually take 3-5 business days, but may take longer.
Regular ILL service is free, but we gladly accept donations to help cover postage costs, about $3 per book.
The ILL loan period is set by the lending library and will vary. If you need to keep a book longer, please call us to request renewal 3-4 days before it is due. Renewals are determined by the lending library.
MSL is responsible for books borrowed from other libraries. Our borrowing privileges are jeopardized if anything is lost, damaged, or returned late. We may suspend ILL privileges of any customer who loses or damages books, or who habitually returns them late.
